August plans

This month I’m going to try the bullet journal method in rings. For a long time I’ve been using a pocket planner as a wallet and satellite planner. I wanted to see if the bullet journal would be the system that allows me to also be able to combine my wallet with my planner. After all, all you really need is blank note pages to fill it, right?

Well, not quite. At least not for me. For this experiment I’ve chosen two planner sizes to try out. The pocket size Gillio Mia Cara (for its portability and wallet features), and the personal size Filofax Sherwood (for the bigger sized paper and good past experience using its pockets as a wallet).

I have made sections coz that’s the nice thing about rings. You can organise your loose paper into sections. My main sections in both planners are the monthly (with habit trackers), the daily section (various old and repurposed inserts for rapid logging), and a list section (for collections). In the Sherwood I have separated my categorised next actions list (@home/ @computer etc from GTD method) from the general collections of reference lists to make it easier to find.

I haven’t finished setting everything up yet. The personal size still needs tracking inserts, and I want to add tabs to label all the collections. But below are some pictures for you to enjoy. First up, the pocket set up:

Love the memo page. Thinking to make an A6 version.

I use the weekly page to forward plan as well as write down things for the day that I don’t want to forget.

Third section: collections

And now the personal:

Messed up the month pages a bit :p

Nice pockets to put notes and coins if used as a wallet.

At the moment I’m only using the pocket size. I’m loving the simplicity of the set up, but need to get used to the small size of the paper. I plan to stay in it for half the month and then switch to the personal size for the last half of the month. We’ll see how that goes.

Have any of you adapted the bullet journal to work in a ring planner? Would love to hear your tips and tricks!

‘Till next time

P.
